Grand Cayman Activities & Island Attractions

Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands is one of the top destinations in the Caribbean. Famous for sandy beaches, clear water, beautiful weather, world-class scuba diving, a variety of water sports, and Stingray City, Grand Cayman has something to offer everyone.

Stingray City: One experience that we feel should not be missed is a trip to Stingray City! For more than a decade, people have been feeding the stingrays in the shallow clear waters of the Sandbar.  The stingrays are used to humans and enjoy being fed. The only way to get to Stingray City is by boat. Thus, we prefer to go on a private or semi-private charter for a day-trip to Stingray City. We recommend asking the boat operator which days there will be the fewest cruise ships in town and or going to Stingray City in the afternoon. About Stingray City: http://www.stingraycitytrips.com/info/about_stingraycity.shtml and Top Ten Reason to visit Stingray City: http://www.destination.ky/stingray-city

We highly recommend Ezona's Aquatics for semi-private or private charters to Stingray City. During our day excursion, we enjoy snorkeling at the coral gardens, fishing, and eating lunch at Kaibo or Rum Point.

Scuba Diving: The Cayman Islands are famous for outstanding scuba diving - temperate water, light current, exceptional visibility, beautiful marine life, and first-class dive operators. For those who are interested in becoming a certified scuba diver or would like to try it out with a resort course, there is no better place to learn than the Cayman Islands.  Some of our favorite dive sites include Balboa (wall dive), Aquarium (beautiful fish), the Wreck of the Oro Verde (wreck dive off of Seven Mile Beach), and the USS Kittiwake (newest wreck site).

Our onsite dive operator Living the Dream Divers is currently rated #1 on Trip Advisor. Living the Dream Divers is an owner operated dive company specializing in small groups with an absolute max of 8 divers.  Contact Liz or Gary to make your reservations for one of their two tank morning dives, afternoon dives, night dives, or three tank trips with on board BBQ lunch. Also, inquire about private charters that are custom designed just for you!

Snorkeling: Some of the best snorkeling on the island can be found along Seven Mile Beach. Tropical fish and coral reefs are abundant at the popular snorkeling sites. Some of our favorite spots include the reefs in front of Treasure Island Resort, the West Bay cemetery, and the Eden Rock dive center in George Town.  If you need equipment, it can be rented at many watersport shops along the beach including Red Sail Sports (located at the nearby Grand Cayman Beach Suites http://www.redsailcayman.com/en/activities/diving/equipment-rentals/index.html) and the Eden Rock dive center (http://www.edenrockdive.com/Snorkeling/Snorkeling.html).

Fishing: Great fishing takes place year round takes place as close as a quarter mile offshore where the ocean floor drops off sharply. Many popular fish including blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and barracuda are caught year-round.

Other Island Attractions

Boatswains Beach:  Home to Grand Cayman’s famous Turtle Farm, you can hold and view Green See Turtles. Other attractions include swimming with the dolphins, snorkeling lagoons, bird watching, and scheduled shark feedings. Our opinion: while the park can be a fun adventure, try to go on a day when there is not more than one cruise ships in town.  For more information on Boatswains Beach http://www.boatswainsbeach.ky/

Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park: A 65-acre nature preserve where you can observe the beautiful flowers and plants of the Cayman Islands, a butterfly farm, and the endangered Grand Cayman Blue Iguana. http://www.botanic-park.ky/

Cayman Islands National Museum:  Explore the history and culture of the Cayman Islands.  Located in George Town, the museum offers local and international exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and other annual events. http://www.museum.ky/Content/16.htm

Pedro St. James Historic Site: A restored 18th century colonial “castle” by the sea. http://www.pedrostjames.ky/

Hell:  View these interesting rock formations and send a postcard from the Hell post office

Blowholes in East End: A popular viewing attraction, the iron shore formations send the waves shooting skyward along the rugged coastline of the East End http://www.caymanactivityguide.com/LandTour2BlowHolesMasticTrail.htm

Kaibo: One of our favorite stops for a casual lunch or dinner on the beach during a day excursion to fish or swim with the stingrays. However, there is also a water taxi available (takes approximately 15 minutes) from the Hyatt Regency. You can call 947-9975 or email kaibo@thebeach.com to reserve your taxi.  http://www.kaibo.ky/

Rum Point: You can enjoy a variety of watersports, eat a beach lunch, or climb into a hammock with your favorite Cayman drink. While you can drive (approximately 45 minutes), we prefer to go by boat (much more scenic). http://www.rumpointattractions.com/

Golf: Grand Cayman has several beautiful golf courses including the Britannia Golf Course (http://www.britannia-golf.com/) and The North Sound Club (http://www.northsoundclub.com/).
